Job Description

WHO WE ARE:

The Boise Co-op, founded in 1973, has grown from a small food-buying club to a thriving community of over 50,000 Co-Owners. With two vibrant grocery locations in the North End and the Village at Meridian, plus our Wine Shop, Pet Shop, and Uncorked Wine Bar, we've become more than just a grocery store—we’re a local gathering spot where good food, good people, and good vibes come together. We’re passionate about supporting our community, serving up delicious products, and building meaningful connections.

PRODUCE CLERK
We’re looking for a Produce Clerk to deliver top-notch customer service and keep our produce department looking fresh and inviting. If you love working with vibrant fruits and veggies and enjoy connecting with people, this might be the perfect fit for you!

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Bring your A-game in customer service — a smile and helpful attitude go a long way!
  • Keep our produce looking fresh and fabulous through receiving, rotation, stocking, sampling, and creative merchandising.
  • Record and minimize loss from damaged or spoiled products — because nobody likes a mushy apple.
  • Create eye-catching displays that make our fruits and veggies look irresistible.
  • Ensure signage is accurate and easy to read — no one wants to confuse a zucchini with a cucumber.
  • Keep things clean and organized; report any safety concerns (slippery floors = no bueno).
  • Manage your time like a pro — balance prep work, stocking, and customer service with ease.
  • Stay sharp on produce knowledge (seasonality, varieties, ripeness) — become the go-to produce guru!
  • Tackle issues independently but know when to call in backup for the tricky stuff.
  • Attend meetings and share your awesome ideas with the team.
  • Get things done efficiently and independently — you’ve got this!

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
  • A sense of urgency and reliability — you show up on time, ready to roll.
  • Previous produce experience and knowledge of natural foods preferred.
  • Intermediate knife skills (because cutting fruit is an art).
  • Current food handler’s card is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Able to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable bending, twisting, reaching, and doing the occasional produce dance (okay, maybe not that last part).
  • Able to work with repetitive hand movements (like typing or slicing).
  • Strong verbal communication skills.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Grocery store setting with lots of public contact and occasional interruptions — adaptability is key!

This isn’t just a job — it’s a chance to join a fun, supportive team and be part of a local institution. If you’re passionate about fresh produce and great service, we’d love to hear from you!
