Assistant Produce Manager

Our busy North Babylon Store is seeking an Assistant Produce Manager for its Produce team! Our Produce Managers are responsible for assisting with the operations of the Produce Department within our store. This individual will assist the Produce Manager with staff hiring, training and with ensuring that our standards of operating within the department are upheld on a daily basis. Collaborating with our Leadership, the Assistant Manager will create displays, manage and track inventory and will communicate with other department managers to manage efforts.

Responsibilities

• Manage department activities related to stocking, pricing and rotation of merchandise
• Assist in ordering, receiving, display and sale of all products in accordance to company quality and merchandising standards
• Collaborate with Merchandising VP and Produce Manager to develop pricing plan and marketing plan
• Assist in developing marketing events and other promotional activities to maximize sales and profits
• Collaborate with Merchandising Director and Produce Manager to develop work plan and labor schedule
• Assist in managing department inventory to maintain proper stock level so that there is no out of stock and over-stock products
• Prepare weekly sales reports for management
• Ensure all invoices and bills are processed accurately and in a timely fashion
• Maintain accurate records of sales, purchases, and any transfers daily between departments
• Ensure that the work environment is clean and safe
• Comply with federal, state and local laws
• Dispose of all outdated and spoiled produce, which is no longer suitable for sale
• Assisting to monitor and control all procurement costs and expenses according to the budget limit
• Ensure customer satisfaction by resolving customer concerns and problems in timely manner
• Work with Store Manager and Produce Manager on hiring, evaluation and overall supervision of department personnel
• Train the produce team in new policies and product knowledge
• Other duties and functions as assigned

Requirements

• HS Diploma or equivalent
• A minimum of 3 years of experience working with produce, fruits and vegetables
• Attention to detail and organization
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the desire and ability to work in a supportive team environment
• Follow sanitary and safety guidelines
• Ability to work in a cold refrigerated environment whether for the entire shift or part of the shift
• Ability to work varied scheduled shifts for department
• Ability to read, write and communicate using English language enough to perform job functions, conduct business related mathematics and analyze data as required.

Working Conditions

• Most of the time is spent moving about continuously on hard surfaces. There may be a need to frequently position oneself to examine and/or scan merchandise, including bending, climbing, crawling, handling, pulling, reaching, and stooping.
• May require lifting objects up to 30 pounds. May require lifting and moving heavy and/or awkward objects more than 30 pounds with assistance.
• Usually in a comfortable indoor environment surrounded by moving machinery and/or loud equipment that may require shouting in order to be heard. There could be exposure to temperature extremes from freezers, ovens, and/or coolers.
• There may be occasional exposure to cleaning agents.
