Retail Sales and Artisan Assistant

Engage with the public in a busy artisan studio
-Complete cash and card sales
-Help with a variety of shop tasks in a unique artisan environment on Granville Island

Granville Island Broom Co. is an artisan studio and retail space that specializes in handmade brooms. We have visitors from all over the world who come to watch and learn about the art of broom making. Our studio is a fun and busy atmosphere.
The Artisan and Retail Assistant position will involve providing our visitors with a friendly and approachable experience and completing sales at the cash register. There will also be a component of helping the broom makers with aspects of their production. Note that this is not a broom making or apprentice broom making position; however, there will be some hand work involved, and any history of professional or other hand type skills are a strong asset.

Retail duties include:
-Welcoming visitors, providing information on the brooms, and helping customers choose the correct broom for their needs.
-Performing all required cash register transactions efficiently and accurately
-Wrapping or boxing brooms for transport
-Keeping the gallery area tidy and restocked

Shop Assistant duties may include:
-Prep and finishing work to assist broom-makers in their production (hand sanding, oiling, stitching, cutting twine etc.)
-Helping with quality control
-Helping to maintain a tidy and safe environment for all

Required Skills:
-Customer Service - Our shop requires the ability to converse with visitors from around the world with confidence and positivity.
-Retail - including experience handling money, and using a cash register/POS system.
-Ability to be on your feet all day in a busy environment.
-Hand Skills. Applicant must have experience working with their hands. Examples include experience with crochet, knitting, beadwork, sewing and textiles, woodworking.
-Good attention to detail and quality control.
-Ability to work independently and as a part of a small team.
-Ability to work in a safe and responsible manner

We are looking for someone to work 3-4 days per week. Salary may vary depending on experience. Availability to be discussed but some weekend days will be required.
